Beginning in 1981, she started working as a singer with the New York-based funk group Material. It was her excellent vocals which attracted notice of major record label like Arista. A number of hit singles, such as The Greatest Love of All, Saving My Love For You How Can I Tell You If That You Love Me as well as The greatest Love of All were released from the album, setting her up to smash the Beatles record with seven consecutive US top 10s. The album sold US 3,000,000 copies and then went to 25,000,000 globally. The album earned her the first in the six Grammys she has won. The Whitney album followed in 1987 and the singles Where Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to build on the success of her debut album. It was, however, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her status as a top-selling artist. Even though her film's performance and soundtrack were not well-received, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as its album that accompanied it dominated the charts for singles and albums across the world for many months. It sold 44 million copies. That same year she married Bobby Brown who was a previous New Edition singer. She had their sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in the month of March, 1993.
